The 2018 Emerson Spanish Spelling Bee is scheduled to take place on February 7, 2018. The spelling bee is open to students in 4th and 5th grade. Students from both Bilingual and Tesol classes may participate. Our first place winner will go on to represent our school at the APS district Spanish bee on February 22, 2018 to compete with other school representatives in grades 4-8. UPDATE: As of 3:31 pm, APD has allowed students who live in the neighborhood bordered by Louisiana, Bell, Chama and Mesilla to enter that neighborhood. Parents of students living in this neighborhood are no longer required to pick up their students.



UPDATE: As of 3:06 pm, the Albuquerque Police Department has asked that Emerson and Van Buren students who live in the neighborhood bordered by Louisiana, Bell, Chama and Mesilla remain at school due to an ongoing investigation that has the area blocked off.


Parents will need to pick up these children at the schools. Please bring ID.

UPDATE: As of 11:36 am, both the lockdown at Emerson Elementary and the shelter in place at Van Buren have been lifted.

UPDATE: As of 11:27 am, Van Buren is a shelter in place due to police activity in the area (same situation as Emerson).

As of 11:26 am, Emerson Elementary is under lockdown due to police activity in the area.

When:  April 24th - 28th 8:30 am - 2:30 pm in the office

What to Bring:

1.  Birth Certificate (Student must be 5 before August 31 at midnight to attend Kindergarten)

 (Student must be 4 before August 31 at midnight to attend NM PreK)

2.  Up-to-Date Immunization Record

3.  Proof of Residency (lease agreement, bill with name on it)
