Principal's Corner - February 2019

Dr. Medina

Hello Emerson Parents and Families!

It's hard to believe we have a little less than 4 months of school and we are entering the most challenging and important time of our school year.

In April, Emerson will be facilitating the State based Assessment (SBA), this will be the new assessment that will replace PARCC.  Last school year, 2017-18, Emerson made substantial gains in our schools report card, we were able to go from a very low F to a very high D, Emerson barely missed making a C by three points, that is almost a two letter grade improvement in one school year.  I am very proud of our incredible teachers and support staff and I am extremely proud of our students for putting in the effort needed to make such great academic gains in Reading, Writing and Math.

As we move forward, please continue to encourage your child to read at home and model that behavior so that this can be a time that both parents and children can work together and flourish.  In addition, having your child at school on time (7:30 AM) is extremely important.  When they get here on time, they have an opportunity to eat breakfast and have some recess before the 8:00 AM morning bell.

Emerson would also like for you to know that we are still hosting Eagle Diner every Monday night from 5:30 - 7:00 PM in our cafeteria.  This is a great time to meet with other parents and enjoy a night in either arts and crafts, cultural events and school themed performances, not to mention a nice sit down dinner.  Please get involved and participate, there are many opportunities to support your child at Emerson.  Emerson is also selling Valentine Grams for Valentines Day, you can purchase them in K4 or Room 11 for $1.

Thank you Emerson families and have a wonderful February!
